4th Mozaik - Summary

In this post, I will review some important points of the 4^th meeting of MIS subject with sir Poan.

-          For me, personally, Ethics are a system of moral principles and a branch of philosophy which defines what is good and wrong for individuals and society.

-          And also some guidance that we need in order to consider with ethic:

1.    Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Golden Rule), in Indonesia it is like karma, do not do bad to people if you do not want people do bad to you.

2.    If an action is not right for everyone to take, it is not right for anyone (Immanuel Kant’s Categorical Imperative), one of best guidance that we need to take and consider.

3.    If an action cannot be taken repeatedly, it is not right to take at all (Descartes’ rule of change), yup correct!

4.    Take the action that achieves the higher or greater value (Utilitarian Principle), it is same with how can we add the value added.

5.    Take the action that produces the least harm or the least potential cost (Risk Aversion Principle) Assume that virtually all tangible and intangible objects are owned by someone else unless there is a specific declaration otherwise. ( no free lunch)

-          Talk about the information system that effect the organization, that actually with the sophisticated technology everything is modified to easier the people work. Land, labor, capita, ideas are such things that we can call them as input to the business, then we process it in the hand of engineer or IT people so that it can be a new product (output) that useful for people. Those processes from input – process – output, if we try to think what is actually the role of Information system, can be formulated as follow:

1.       Workforce, with the sophisticated technology also it make the workforce becomes more dynamic because everything is computerized so that if we don’t have the skill to operate it, we will left behind.

2.       Fixed cost, for example at first we do not use technology, then we try to use new technology, it will increase our fixed cost (for example the electricity in order to operate the machine, etc)

3.       Distribution cost, in my opinion, through the use of the MIS, the distribution cost will be not really higher because nowadays the distribution is not from producer – dealer – consumer, but can be directly from producer – consumer.
