 3. The Essay

Things I like to do

                Everyone is unique. They have different predilection when they met their boring time. For me, life is like a tree of Oak.  They grow, breathe, and interact with other trees and environment. That’s what life means, we grow up because of the time and problem, we interact with surrounding, and we breathe the freedom. Unfortunately, having some kind of routine activities in life make us feel bored and just want to stop for every kind of activities. That’s what called parasites for a tree, boredom came to interfere our life. For me, usually I do some things that I like to do to kill that boredom.

First, I like reading. Actually I don’t have special things to be read, but sometimes I spent my reading time to read novels. Talk about novels, usually I like to read travelling novels. While reading the travelling novels, I just made my self feeling enjoy because I could imagined I was be there at that plots of novel and traveled a lot of places. On the other hand, I also like to read Islamic novels. Most of that novels usually told about “Hijrah” things, some stories about the Heroes and Heroines in Islam, and the important things are about the spread of Islam by Prophets. Beside that, I also love to read poems. Poem for me like the bloomed flower that blooms without limited time, it spreads its fragrance to the readers. I like to read Rumi’s poems, everyone who knows  about him will be agree why I choose him as my favourite poem writer. The style of Rumi’s poem is really deep inside the life and heart.  On the other side, there is also Paulo Coelho, the great writer ever. Actually, Paulo more popular with his well-known novels, but let you find some of books or sites that contains his poems. For those of you who love read, you will suddenly love it. Talk about inside Indonesia, I like to read Chairil Anwar's poems because most of his poem really historicial and talk about nationality. The last but not least, as a Muslim I can not far from Al-Qur’an. For me, I read Qur’an not only when I feel bored, but also I have a schedule for it. My favourite sura in Qur’an are Sura An-nuur and Sura Muhammad. These two Sura really have nice meaning for our life. For example, An-nur or in English means “light”, this Sura told us to keep our attitudes, love surrounding and parents, to clean our heart from bad things, and keep faith in a good way to God. Then, I also like to hear the recited of that Sura that my brother usually record for me, then I tried to read it back to understand the meaning. In short, reading makes you understand and knowing something , that’s why I love read.

Second, I also like writing. At first, before I got English 4 in academic writing, I just like to write anything what I want without do intension for some structures or pre-writing. Gratefully, having this subject in semester 4 make me learn lot of things. Then, most of my ‘writing time’ has spent to write some short stories. Talk about genre, I like fiction short stories. While writing a fiction story, you can free your imagination to fight with the reality. You are the only one who can decide what will happen in your paper. That’s really fun. The other thing, I also like to write my experiences. Some of experiences have written in a diary book, and the others ‘which I think not too private’ usually I share it to my personal blog just for fun or sometimes can be a informative reading. For example, at that time it was my first experience to buy something through online shop, and I told the reader through my blog to become selective while using online shop application. Next, I also like to write poem. I divided poem into 2 categories based on the “feel” of words. Firstly, there is Utopia, which tell about harmony, balance, good condition, and nice esthetic things. The opposite, there is also Dystopia which tell about unorganized condition, sad things, disappointment, and bad reality. Those kind of categories that I usually write it depends my mood. When I feel happy usually I will make a utopia’s poem, when I feel sad or in a down condition I will create the opposite. At last, I also like to write religious poem which told about our grateful to God or just to remind us to do good things so that we can keep faith in good way. Sometimes, this kind of religious poem not only useful for the creator itself, but also for the readers ‘whoever the readers are’. So that through this hobby, I hope I can be useful for surrounding.

The last, I like listening to music. Actually, I think it is not a hobby, but I just like to do it. In addition, Based on a research in Maryland University in 2008, listening to your favourite music makes you feel happy. So that’s why I still keep this habit.  Talk about favourite music, usually I like to hear pop songs. In addition, mostly I like to hear Middle East and Turkish songs. I like to hear Middle East songs because of the lyrics are really deep and usually to make us remember God. When you remember God, you will easily forget about the pain. That’s really worth for me, when I got demotivation usually these songs are giving me light to keep strong. On the other hand, I like Turkish songs because of their unique songs’ instruments. They usually use traditional guitar named Baglama and Tar which have unique melody. Furthermore, If you have not heard it before, maybe you will be confuse to divide which one is sad song and which one is happy song because of their melody of songs sometimes could not be predicted if we don’t know the meaning. Next, I also like listening the instruments. Actually, there are lot of types of instrument, but I prefer to choose the instrumental of guitar and piano. Mozart are the best example for some great piano’s instrumental. For guitar, sometimes I just like to hear from some of new song covers that some people uploaded. Well, it really nice to hear it to fresh your brain because of easy to be heard while relax time.

In summary, having some things that you like to do when you met your boring time is really beneficial and fun. Reading, writing, and listening to music are the example of things that I usually do to kick the parasites from my life when boring time came. While do that, I can refresh my brain for some times while still do productive things. Same with a Oak tree that not only need water, but also it needs sunlight to grow up. Our life need different things under the basic things that we usually do. That’s why life is, to do what we like.
